Exhibition opening in the presence of André Malraux's family
as part of the André Malraux Fiftieth Anniversary, Saturday 3 October at 11:00.
The "Dyables" are ink or pencil sketches produced by André Malraux over nearly fifteen years, revealing an unexpected facet of the writer.
Both spontaneous, whimsical and subtly incisive, these drawings play with humour and mystery.
For his wife Madeleine Malraux, who was their main recipient, the Dyables amuse us but also intrigue us like witty riddles. Their elliptical, lively captions allow us to discover a "turn of mind in his own
way".
Through these scribbled figures emerges a singular counterpoint to the seriousness of André Malraux's literary and political work, revealing a free, playful and deeply inventive spirit.
